I forgot to share yesterday about the women's marathon. Amy Cragg has always been one of my favourite runners. She has been a marathoner in recent years. She was 9th place in Rio. The picture here shows here a little over halfway with a pack. In the last 10k, she moved back and forth between 3rd and 4th. She got dropped by 3rd place for a little while near the end. When we saw her with 400m to go, she had about a 2 second lead over now 4th place. She held on to 3rd with the finish in the middle of Tower Bridge. She was close to silver and gold, but just couldn't quite close on them. She showed a lot of determination today.
I just finished uploading my videos from the
I was just talking to Andy about someone that I thought was named Sally from the 2000 Olympics that won a gold in the 400. She was the first Australian aborigine to win a medal ever. He brought it up again recently and so I search for "Sally sydney olympic aborigine". The first result that came up was "Cathy Freeman". That is her! We had a good laugh about how Google knows everything about us, where we are, what we are doing, and how we think.
Coldplay is playing on the speakers now! I keep thinking they will make a surprise appearance. The opening ceremonies only had a choir. It wasn't very exciting.
The 1500 final was great! Jenny had great position most of the way, but got dropped to 4th on the final lap. With 120 to go, she made a move, but was blocked from getting through until the runner in 3rd place moved to the outside of lane 1. Jenny snuck by on the inside. Contact was made, but not enough to warrant a disqualification. She moved into third, then second. She ended up with the silver and was so excited. She now has 4 World or Olympic medals. Caster Semenya from South Africa edged out Laura Muir from England to get the bronze. The crowd was so enthusiastic and expected a medal from Laura. She seemed so crushed after the finish.
The set off flames and fireworks after every final.
